Sawrey House is set in the picturesque hamlet of Near Sawrey, the once home of famous children's author Beatrix Potter. Her old house, Hill Top, is situated next door to Sawrey House as is an ideal place to start your Beatrix Potter journey.
At Hill Top you can immerse yourself in the countryside and places which inspired Beatrix Potter and were so loved by her. Walk in the footsteps of Beatrix as you enter her house and step back in time to the place where she wrote and illustrated many of her 'little books'.
Explore her traditional cottage garden too, where your can search for recogniseable places where Tom Kitten, Mittens and Moppet played, and where Jemima Puddle-duck tried to hide her eggs.
Close by Sawrey House, in Hawkshead (2 miles away), you will find The Beatrix Potter Gallery. Here you will find a large collection of Beatrix's original ink drawings and illustrations, including, for the first time ever, a display of her first, privately printed edition of 'The Tale of Peter Rabbit'. You will also see the delightful picture letter in which Peter makes his first appearance! The gallery is a real must for any Beatrix Poter fan and an essential stop on your Beatrix Potter journey!
No Beatrix Potter journey is complete without a trip to The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction in Bowness. Here all 23 Tales by Beatrix Potter are brought to life in a magical indoor recreation of the Lakeland countryside, complete with sights, sounds and even smells. So you can meet Peter Rabbit in Mr. McGregor’s garden, discover Jemima Puddle-duck in the woodland glade and visit Mrs. Tiggy-winkle in her kitchen.
