Near and Far Sawrey
Near Sawrey and Far Sawrey are two neighbouring villages in the Furness area of Cumbria. The two are famous for their association with Beatrix Potter where she lived at Hill Top Farm in Near Sawrey. They are located in the Lake District between the town of Hawkshead and the lake of Windermere. The two lie on the B5285, which runs from Hawkshead to the Windermere Ferry, a car ferry across Windermere one mile to the east of the villages.
Esthwaite Water is just a 10 minute walk from sawrey House and is a natural lake extending to 280 acres with deep basins to the North and South. Combined with extensive shallows, it creates a rich and varied fishery. rainbow and Brown Trout are restocked weekly throughout the season.
Grizedale Forest, in the heart of the Lake District, offers an unrivalled day out for everyone.
You can find walking & cycling trails or simply discover a quiet spot to admire the wildlife, amazing sculptures, a place to relax and enjoy.
